Trump-Musk Reunion: US President Donald Trump and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk were seen together on Sunday at the memorial service of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, marking their first public appearance together since their acrimonious split earlier this year.

The two men, once close allies, sat side-by-side at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, where tens of thousands of mourners gathered to pay tribute to the 31-year-old conservative leader who was shot dead on September 10 at a Utah university campus.

Videos circulating on social media showed Trump and Musk chatting in a visibly cordial manner. The White House later shared a photograph of the duo in conversation, while Musk himself posted an image on his platform X, captioned simply: “For Charlie.”

Trump Calls Kirk 'A Giant Of His Generation'

In a powerful address to the packed stadium, Trump hailed Charlie Kirk as “a giant of his generation” and a “devoted husband, father, Christian and patriot.” He told mourners that Kirk’s killing was “an attack on every freedom-loving American.” “The gun was pointed at him, but the bullet was aimed at all of us,” Trump said, drawing loud applause from the crowd. He accused the “radical left and their media allies” of trying to silence Kirk, calling him a “martyr for freedom and truth.”

The service, organised by Turning Point USA, the conservative youth movement founded by Kirk, resembled a state funeral in scale and security presence. Among the high-profile attendees were Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

Prominent conservative figures, including Tucker Carlson, Stephen Miller, and Donald Trump Jr. also spoke, while Erika Kirk, the activist’s widow and new head of Turning Point USA, moved the audience by saying she forgave her husband’s alleged killer, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who now faces murder charges and the death penalty. “You thought you could kill Charlie Kirk? You have made him immortal,” Trump adviser Stephen Miller declared.

The memorial marked a surprising reunion for Trump and Musk, whose relationship had soured after Musk’s resignation from the White House’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE). Musk had earlier criticised Trump’s flagship tax and spending bill as “insane and destructive,” prompting Trump to threaten federal contracts with Musk’s companies. Musk had even floated the idea of launching his own “America First” party, though little came of it. Their appearance together on Sunday hinted a thaw, with both men apparently setting aside differences to honour Kirk.
