US President Donald Trump has opened up about his very first night inside the White House with First Lady Melania Trump, recalling the moment as “surreal” and “unforgettable.” Speaking at a private donor dinner on Wednesday evening (October 15), Trump shared rare personal details about the night he first entered the presidential residence after winning the 2016 election.
Trump described standing in the residential hallway alongside Melania, gazing into the historic Lincoln Bedroom. “To me, there’s nothing like the White House,” he said, according to The Independent. “After I won, the first night, I went up and I’m standing in the residential hallway with Melania and I’m looking into the Lincoln Bedroom. I say, ‘That was a surreal experience. Do you believe this? We’re in the White House, and that’s the Lincoln Bedroom!’”
He went on to admit that the feeling of awe never fully faded, adding, “It takes a while to get used to it… I’m still not, probably, used to it. It’s just a special place, what can I say. So we have to take care of it.”
Glimpse Inside The Lincoln Bedroom
The Lincoln Bedroom, one of the most historic rooms in the White House, has long captured the imagination of presidents and guests alike. Originally serving as former President Abraham Lincoln’s office, it was later converted into a bedroom and, in 1961, was redesigned by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy as a more intimate space for family dining. The room has since remained a symbol of presidential legacy and reflection.
Melania’s Shock Over FBI Raid
During the same dinner, Trump revisited another moment involving Melania, her reaction to the 2022 FBI raid at their Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. He claimed agents searched “every drawer and cabinet,” including those belonging to the First Lady. “They went through the drawers of my young son. They went through all the drawers and cabinets of the First Lady,” Trump said.
He quoted Melania’s response: “‘Wow, what happened?’ She’s very meticulous, and this wasn’t very meticulous as she looked into the drawers and saw a mess.” Trump went on to call the raid “the worst weaponisation of a political opponent in the history of the world.”

$200 Million Ballroom And Future Plans
Trump also revealed details of ongoing renovations at the White House, mentioning a new USD 200 million ballroom project reportedly funded by wealthy supporters. He even hinted at plans to build a “triumphal arch” near the Lincoln Memorial, a move, he said, meant to “honor America’s greatness.”
