xAI, the Elon Musk-led AI startup, has finally announced the Grok AI model. According to the company, it is built on the lines of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and aimed at answering "almost anything". It can even suggest queries a user can ask from the model. Grok is trained to respond to queries with slight wit and humour.
Among the unique advantages of the model is real-time knowledge aided by X, formerly called Twitter. The company added that it can answer "spicy" queries usually rejected by other AI chatbots. Plus, the firm added that the model is in a "very early beta" and will improve in future. xAI aims to "benefit all of humanity."

The model runs on the Grok-1 Large Language Model (LLM), which has been a work in progress for the past four months. Considering the short time of development, Grok-1 falls short compared to OpenAI's GPT-4 in the benchmarks when it comes to math problems, MCQs, coding, and more.
After release, Grok will be available for X Premium+ users, which cost Rs 1,300 on the web platform in India. (Image:Unsplash)
However, it does manage to beat GPT 3.5 in the controlled testing, according to stats shared by xAI. It passed the Hungarian National High School Math Exam 2023 with 59 per cent accuracy, compared to GPT-4's 68 per cent and GPT 3.5's 41 per cent.
While Grok can work with real-time information and can access search tools, the company admits that it can "still generate false or contradictory information." Plus, the model lacks multimodal capabilities like the popular ChatGPT. It is available to limited testers in the United States via a waitlist.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk earlier announced that once released, Grok will be available for X Premium+ users, which cost Rs 1,300 on the web platform in India. You can read more about Musk's comments here.
