Former US president Donald Trump on Tuesday said that he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his next visit to the United States this weekend for the Quad Leaders’ Summit. The Republican presidential candidate reportedly announced while campaigning in Michigan.
“He happens to be coming to meet me next week, and Modi, he’s fantastic,” Trump said while speaking at an event in the town hall in Flint, Michigan, as quoted by Bloomberg.
Trump also said that India is very tough. He further said, "These people are the sharpest people". "They're not a little bit backwards...You know the expression, they're at the top of their game, and they use it against us. But India is very tough. Brazil is very tough ... China is the toughest of all, but we were taking care of China with the tariffs," he said.
PM Modi will visit the United States from September 21 to 23. During this visit, he will participate in the Quad Summit, a key forum for cooperation among India, the US, Japan, and Australia, and address the 'Summit of the Future' at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The upcoming Quad Leaders' Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, marks a significant milestone as leaders from the United States, India, Australia, and Japan convene for their fourth meeting, hosted by President Joe Biden. Following the summit, the prime minister will engage with the Indian community in New York and address the "Summit of the Future" at the United Nations General Assembly.
Notably, PM Modi and Trump last met in February 2020, when the then-US president visited India. PM Modi described it as a "path-breaking" moment in strengthening the relations between the two countries.
