Social media platform TikTok on Sunday went offline in the US, just a few hours ahead of the enforcement of a new law banning the app. A message popped up on the screens of the users as they tried to access the app, stating that the law banning TikTok had been enacted in the country, meaning "you can't use TikTok for now".
Earlier on Saturday, TikTok confirmed that they will go dark on Sunday if the Biden administration did not assure them that the ban will not be enforced. The users also stated that TikTok is also removed from Apple and Google's US app stores, adding that even TikTok.com was not showing videos. However, the app remained hopeful by emphasising that President-elect Donald Trump is willing to work with them on a solution to reinstate the app once he is in power.
"We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office," the message from the app read. Earlier on Saturday, President-elect Trump stated that he would most likely give the app a 90-day time period reprieve from a ban once he takes office.
"The 90-day extension is something that will be most likely done, because it's appropriate," Trump was quoted as saying by NBC News on Saturday. However, he clarified that he will do the public announcement on Monday if he decides to give TikTok the time. "If I decide to do that, I'll probably announce it on Monday," Trump added.

In an official statement, the White House clarified that the decision will be taken by the incoming administration, adding that there was no reason for the app to take any action before the Trump administration takes office.
"We see no reason for TikTok or other companies to take actions in the next few days before the Trump administration takes office on Monday," press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was quoted as saying by BBC.
