In line with the National Education Policy, the Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Department has launched the ‘Abacus UP’ portal, a digital education bank aimed at making higher education more flexible and student-friendly.
The portal, officially known as the Academic Bank for College and University Students of UP, has so far registered 49 universities and 4,426 colleges, connecting 354,064 students and 34,135 teachers across the state.
Abacus UP functions like a financial bank, but for academic credits. Students can safely store their academic data and credits and, if needed, transfer them to another university or college. This system particularly benefits students who must pause their studies, allowing them to resume from where they left off without losing their previously earned credits.
Among the universities that have connected the largest number of colleges to the portal are Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur (815 colleges), Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut (618 colleges), Prof Rajendra Singh (Rajju Bhaiya) University, Prayagraj (578 colleges), and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra (577 colleges).
The Higher Education Department emphasised that the Abacus-UP portal offers students a convenient way to access their academic records and simplifies the process of transferring credits between institutions. With just a single click, students can track their academic progress and manage their education seamlessly across different universities and colleges.
