The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has issued an important guideline regarding new technical courses. According to this, if a university or institute wants to start a new course (or branch) whose name is not already listed in the approval process handbook, it will be mandatory for them to get permission from the council.
AICTE has released this new approval process for the 2026-27 academic session. As per the new rules, for a university or institute to start such a new course, it must first get permission from its own Registrar or the director of its affiliating board. After that, a proposal with the complete details of the course syllabus and the number of available seats (intake) has to be submitted to the council. This proposal must be sent to AICTE's Policy and Academic Planning Bureau by September 25.
The council has appealed to all affiliated universities and institutions to send their proposals on time, so that these new courses can be included in the approval process handbook for the 2026-27 session.

On this issue, Prof JP Pandey, the Vice-Chancellor of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), said that no technical course can be run without AICTE's accreditation. He stated that all technical colleges in the state affiliated with AKTU are regularly monitored, and if any doubt is found regarding an institution's accreditation, AICTE is informed immediately.
Prof Pandey also gave a piece of important advice to students. He said that before taking admission in any technical course, students must verify the accreditation of that institution by visiting the AICTE website.
