A five-year-old primary school student from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Allahabad High Court for the removal of a liquor shop near his school premises. Based on the PIL of the student, the court has asked for a response from the authorities on why a liquor shop near a school was allowed to operate.

The PIL, filed by a private school student in Azad Nagar, claimed that the liquor shop caused a nuisance and disturbance to the students and teachers, as people often created a ruckus near school after drinking.

The Allahabad High Court has sought a response from the authorities as to why the licence of the liquor shop in Kanpur Nagar was being renewed even after the school came into existence in the vicinity.

A division bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and Justice Kshitij Shailendra asked the state counsel to get a reply from the authorities and listed the matter for March 13 for the next hearing.
