The army has installed speed-detecting cameras in three major routes across the cantonment to curb over-speeding in military areas in Lucknow. If your vehicle's speed exceeds 60 kmph while passing through these areas, expect a challan delivered to your doorstep.

These cameras record details of over-speeding vehicles, and the military police compiles a list which is then forwarded to the traffic police. To date, the traffic police have collected fines amounting to Rs 3.5 lakh based on the army's list.

This initiative, a collaboration between the military and traffic police, aims to regulate speeding vehicles within the cantonment. Cameras and screens have been installed on Bahadur Shah Marg (opposite Race Course), Begum Hazrat Mahal Marg (near Inspection Bungalow), and Kasturba Marg. These cameras capture details of vehicles moving at speeds between 10 and 120 kmph within a 30-meter range.

A laser-equipped camera and screen display the speed of all passing vehicles, alerting drivers exceeding 30 kmph. For vehicles exceeding 60 kmph, the military police control room prepares a list and sends it to the traffic police for challan issuance.

The minimum fine for over-speeding is Rs 2,000, and the traffic police have already collected Rs 3.5 lakh from approximately 150 vehicle owners. In the next phase, the army plans to install these cameras on all major roads, including Subhash Marg, SP Road, and Nehru Road.
