Two tantriks were arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor for allegedly decapitating a corpse, police officials said on Saturday. The incident took place at the grave of Qari Saifurrahman, who had passed away in July and the two accused reportedly cut off the corpse’s head for the tantrik rituals. Police have registered an FIR and an investigation is underway.
Haldaur Police Station House Officer (SHO) Rampratap stated that on September 23, the grave in the Khari area was found disturbed and the head of the body was missing. "The head of the body was missing. In this case, when tantriks -- Kasimuddin and Ramveer -- were arrested and questioned on Saturday," Rampratap said.
The accused, Kasimuddin and Ramveer, were apprehended and confessed to cutting off Saifurrahman's head between September 22 and 23 for tantric rituals. Kasimuddin admitted to disposing of the head in the sea near Mumbai after being scared by the public outrage over the incident. Police have recovered a shovel and a saw from the accused, and further investigation is underway.
In a separate case, a couple in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district allegedly killed their 37-day-old daughter under the influence of a tantrik last week. The police were alerted by suspicious neighbours when the couple, Gopal and Mamta, returned home without their daughter, Shagun. The couple had been consulting the tantrik since Shagun's birth due to her poor health.
