As part of the National Mission for Clean Ganga, a comprehensive drone survey will be conducted to map all drains flowing into the Kali River. The NamamiGange unit of UP Jal Nigam Rural in Muzaffarnagar will carry out the survey, with preparations already underway. The survey is expected to begin within a week.

The Kali River, which originates in Khatauli (Muzaffarnagar) and merges with the Ganga near Kannauj, is a critical waterway flowing through districts like Meerut, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, and Etah. The government aims to make the river flow uninterrupted and clean, and this survey is the first step towards creating a detailed rejuvenation plan.

Currently, officials are aware of several major pollution sources, including four large drains in Meerut (Abu Nala One, Abu Nala-Two, Odeon Nala, and Delhi Road Nala) and two in Khatauli that discharge polluted water directly into the river. The drone survey will help identify these known sources as well as potentially hundreds of smaller, unmapped drains.

Key Objectives Of The Drone Survey

The survey has been designed to gather precise data on several key issues affecting the river. It will:

- Trace the exact locations of all drains flowing into the Kali River.

- Determine the actual number and current condition of these drains.

- Identify which drains are actively discharging water and which are blocked.

- Pinpoint areas of illegal encroachment along the riverbanks.

- Assess the extent of blockages in the river caused by silt and rubbish.

- Locate specific points where the river's natural flow is obstructed.

Sanjeet Katiyar, Project Manager of the Namami Gange unit, confirmed the initiative. "A drone survey of the Kali River will be conducted from Muzaffarnagar to the Meerut-Ghaziabad border to determine the actual condition of the drains flowing into it," he said. "The survey will begin within a week with the help of an agency. Based on the survey, a rejuvenation plan for the Kali River will be formulated."
