Relief is expected soon for commuters struggling with dilapidated city roads across Kanpur. Under the Chief Minister Grid (CM Grid) Scheme, approval has been given for the construction of three major routes, Shyam Nagar Bypass to PAC Mor, Hamirpur Road via Trimurti Apartment to Bhurepurwa Naubasta, and Gurudev Road to Avadhpuri.
According to officials, construction work has already begun on 10 major roads across the city, covering 26.83 km. The new projects will be executed under the supervision of the Municipal Corporation and PWD engineers, with an estimated budget of Rs 141.10 crore allocated for the three upcoming roads.
The inclusion of these roads in the third phase of CM Grid is expected to bring significant relief to residents of the southern region, where stretches like Shyam Nagar Bypass–PAC Mor are in poor condition and plagued by illegal encroachments and haphazard parking.
So far, the Municipal Corporation has proposed and initiated work on nearly 35 km of roads under the CM Grid, with a cumulative expenditure of over Rs 340 crore. The initiative comes in response to long-standing issues of potholes, waterlogging, and premature road damage, particularly in high-traffic zones such as Shyamnagar, Hanspuram, Barra, and Swaroop Nagar.

Further action will be initiated soon regarding their construction,” said Syed Farid Akhtar Zaidi, Chief Engineer, Municipal Corporation.
