The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) is set to launch the Mukhyamantri Janta Seva scheme to improve public transport access in rural areas of Akbarpur and Tanda. From January, 21 state-run buses will operate from both depots to all five tehsils and nine block headquarters, expanding services to villages that currently rely on unauthorised vehicles.
The initiative aims to curb unsafe transport practices and offer passengers safe, affordable travel options. Fares on these buses will be 20 per cent lower than on regular services, ensuring a cheaper commute for rural residents.
UPSRTC officials are finalising route plans, including fleet strength, stops, timings and fare charts. Services are expected to begin between mid-December and the first week of January.
Under the operational plan, buses will start from rural areas and travel to the district or depot headquarters. Each bus will have a single driver-conductor team and run up to 100 km. It will be mandatory for buses to halt overnight in a village on their final trip. The fleet will feature a dedicated colour scheme aligned with the Mukhyamantri Janta Seva branding.
At present, nearly 400 villages along major routes, including Bhiti tehsil, Hanswar Bazar, Malipur, Jalalpur, Akbarpur-Iltifatganj, Bhiti-Mahrua and Jalalpur, remain without state bus connectivity. Over two lakh people are dependent on costly and unsafe modes like illegal jeeps, tempos and e-rickshaws for essential travel to hospitals, courts, offices and schools.
Residents and students especially struggle for transport between Tanda-Iltifatganj and Ahiraula-Akbarpur via Sevaganj, often risking their safety.

The new services are expected to ease this burden, reduce travel costs, and provide reliable access to key facilities such as health centres, markets and educational institutions.
Buses will also connect important religious and public destinations, including Jahangirganj, Alapur, Jalalpur Ramnagar, Baskhari, Govind Sahab, Shivbab, Kichhauchha Dargah, Tanda, the medical college and Shravandham. Officials believe this will help reduce traffic congestion and promote local tourism.
“The Mukhyamantri Janta Seva low-fare bus service will be launched by January. Route charts and fares are being prepared. Buses will operate within a 100-km radius, connecting block headquarters and religious sites,” said Kunwar Hariom Srivastava, Assistant Regional Manager, Akbarpur Depot.
