Delhi-Doon Expressway: Meerut's connectivity might get a boost as a plan to build an elevated road from Partapur to Siwaya Toll Plaza on the Delhi-Dehradun Highway is on the cards. If all goes according to the plan, the road will be connected to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway junction at Partapur.
According to Cantt MLA Amit Agarwal, Union Transport, Road, and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has ordered that a DPR be prepared for this. Soon, an agency will be appointed to work with the project office in Meerut on the DPR. The elevated route, which is roughly 26 kilometres long, will be four lanes.
Cantt MLA Amit Agarwal met with the Union Minister in Delhi. He was told that in May 2023, Nitin Gadkari personally discussed extending the bypass to six lanes or creating an elevated road. At the same time, he provided verbal directions to prepare the DPR, but no work was done on it.
The width was not expanded, nor was an elevated road created. The MLA stated that when he was informed of the old matter, the Union Minister quickly issued a formal order that the elevated road's DPR be prepared. According to Amit Aggarwal, there is a barrier to extending the road to six lanes.
There is a lack of space owing to development nearby; there are many universities, marriage halls, and so on, causing traffic jams; in such a case, if an elevated road is developed, traffic outside will pass from above. Vehicles traveling from Delhi to Ghaziabad will avoid traffic delays if they connect to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
The Cantt MLA stated that due to the lack of a service lane on the Dehradun bypass, local vehicles access the main road, causing traffic bottlenecks. The Union Minister has been informed of the issue. The Union Minister has authorised the building of a service road.
There are several flyovers on the Dehradun bypass till the Siwaya toll plaza, therefore if an elevated road is developed, these flyovers would either be incorporated or removed from the side.
There is also an RRTS corridor connecting Modipuram Mor and Krishi Vishwavidyalaya; however, an alternative will be developed. In this section, the RRTS corridor has been erected on the side of the highway, so the elevated road will not be obstructed.
