Delhi-Meerut Expressway: NHAI Begins IPEM Exit Widening To Ease Daily Traffic Congestion

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Thursday began work to widen the IPEM exit on the Delhi-Meerut lane of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) to address persistent traffic congestion in the area.

The work started after the Traffic Police conducted a successful trial on Wednesday by creating an additional lane using barricades, during which traffic flow remained smooth. Daily traffic jams were being reported on NH-9 and the DME near the Vijaynagar bypass, opposite IPEM College, due to the narrow exit and entry lanes at this location.

As part of the project, NHAI is removing the existing pavement to widen the lane. One lane of NH-9 has been temporarily cordoned off with barricades to facilitate the work. In the first phase, widening of the Delhi-Meerut lane is being carried out, after which work will commence on the Meerut-Delhi lane.

Officials said the lane widening is being completed on a fast-track basis. Adequate police personnel have been deployed at the site to ensure commuter safety and maintain smooth traffic movement during the construction work, said ACP Traffic Ziauddin Ahmed.
