The Delhi-Dehradun highway is set to receive a major upgrade, appearing brighter and greener as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) begins extensive work on a 78.3 km stretch.
The project, which covers the section from Partapur Tirahe in Meerut to Rampur Tirahe in Muzaffarnagar, has a substantial budget of Rs 100 crore allocated for beautification and major maintenance.
This 78.3 km stretch falls under the jurisdiction of the Meerut-based NHAI office and is also the operational area for the Western UP Tollway Company, which manages the Siwaya Toll Plaza. While the toll company conducts periodic maintenance, this is the first time such a large sum has been released specifically for beautification and major repairs.
Scope Of Work
The project includes a wide range of tasks to improve the highway's appearance and infrastructure:
- Painting of dividers, footpaths and flyovers.
- Construction of slabs.
- Laying tar topped with fine-grained gravel.
- Road patchwork in more than 100 locations.
- Maintenance of plants on the dividers.
Safety Upgrades At Jitauli Flyover
A significant safety enhancement is underway at the Jitauli railway flyover.
Previous State: The flyover previously had only a three-foot-high grill made of wide iron plates.
Incident: About two years ago, a woman attempted to jump from the flyover following a family dispute but was saved when passers-by raised an alarm and caught her.
New Work: To prevent future incidents, a new four-and-a-half-foot-high iron plate grill is being installed on the outer side of the old grill.
