Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday directed officials to ensure stringent security arrangements for Kartik Purnima, Dev Deepavali, Guru Nanak Jayanti, the Dadri Mela in Ballia, and the Garhmukteshwar Mela in Hapur. He stressed that police must keep a close watch on disruptive elements at ghats and fairs and take strict action against them.

Issuing a stern warning to police personnel making social media reels while on duty at sensitive locations, the CM said such officers will be removed from critical posts and barred from duty during major events to maintain discipline and public decorum. “Any lapse in security will not be tolerated,” he said.

Reviewing law and order, grievance redressal systems, festival preparations, paddy procurement, and health services through video conference, Yogi instructed senior officials and district administrations to prioritise cleanliness, security, and vigilance during the upcoming festivals.

He also emphasised effective crowd and traffic management, directing authorities to prevent any disruptive elements from entering ghats and crowded locations. Officials assured that negligence in crowd control, cleanliness, and security would not be tolerated, particularly as lakhs of devotees visit ghats and fairs during this period.

The CM ordered that all ghats be equipped with proper lighting, floating barriers, CCTV surveillance, health centres, mobile toilets, lost-and-found desks, and changing rooms. With high water levels and strong currents in rivers, he instructed the deployment of SDRF and NDRF teams and mandated life jackets for all boating activities.

Special security arrangements are to be ensured in districts expecting huge footfall, including Varanasi for Dev Deepavali, as well as Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Hapur, Muzaffarnagar, Amroha, Badaun, and Ballia.
