Uttar Pradesh: Eastern Uttar Pradesh, long associated with poor road access and slow development, is set to see major infrastructure and public service upgrades in the coming year. A new greenfield expressway, large-scale drinking water projects and improved hospital facilities are expected to change the region’s growth trajectory.

New Expressway To Link UP And Bihar

A greenfield expressway connecting Ghazipur to Ballia and extending up to the Bihar border is under construction. The road will link eastern Uttar Pradesh to the Purvanchal Expressway, improving travel and trade between UP and Bihar.

The corridor begins near Hridaypur village on NH-29, crosses NH-19 at Chhapra-Manjhi and ends at the new Revilganj bypass on the Bihar border. The total length of the project is around 134 km, with an estimated cost of Rs 5,320 crore. Project Director S K Pathak said the expressway is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

Officials say the road will improve access to cities such as Chhapra, Patna and Buxar, while opening new employment opportunities and strengthening the regional economy.

Drinking Water For 4.37 Lakh Families

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, around 4.37 lakh families in the district are expected to receive piped drinking water in the new year. The project, costing Rs 3,335 crore, aims to supply treated water from the Ganga and Saryu rivers.

Three water treatment plants are being built at Belhari, Hanumanganj and Maniyar, with a combined capacity of 449 million litres per day. Pipelines are being laid across villages, and the treated water will be supplied through overhead tanks. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone of the project in Jaiprakash Nagar in June. Officials said work is progressing at all sites.

Pending Projects Remain A Challenge

Despite progress, several large projects remain incomplete. Out of 354 projects worth over Rs 1 crore in the district, 113 could not be finished in 2025. These include works under the Public Works Department, Irrigation Department, Jal Nigam, Tourism Development Corporation and other agencies. Completing these projects will be a key task in the new year.

Two Hospitals To Become Fully Operational

Health infrastructure is also set to improve. The building of the 100-bed Joint Government Hospital in Sonbarsa, Bairia block, has been completed and is expected to be handed over soon. Another facility at Prabhavati Devi Community Health Centre in Jaiprakash Nagar has been upgraded to a 100-bed hospital.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Sanjeev Verma said both hospitals are expected to start functioning fully in the new year, with arrangements being finalised.
