Ganga Expressway Update: Travel between Meerut and Prayagraj is set to become more convenient starting January, as the Ganga Expressway nears completion. According to officials, the Ganga Expressway is expected to be officially opened to the public in the second week of January.
Preparations are currently underway for the trial run scheduled for December. Before this, a team of experts will conduct a thorough inspection of the expressway and issue the necessary safety certificates. Once this process is completed, the date for the trial run will be announced, Jagran.com reported.

Ganga Expressway Status Update
Spanning 129 km, the first sector of the Ganga Expressway from Meerut to Badaun includes a total of 322 major structures, all of which, including the Simbhaoli stretch, have been completed. According to the officials from the Uttar Pradesh Development Authority (UPDA), trial runs are scheduled to be conducted in December. Following final testing, the 594-km expressway is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 15, 2026.
Speaking to Jagran.com, ADM Sandeep Kumar said, “The construction of the Ganga Expressway is complete. Now, preparations are underway for its trial run. We are aiming to conduct a trial run in December and inaugurate it in January. We will submit a report to the government for the inauguration. A meeting will soon be held with UPDA and NHAI officials regarding this matter.”
Five locations along the expressway have been designed with structures capable of accommodating fighter aircraft landings, which can be utilised in emergencies, the report added.
Key Highlights Of The Ganga Expressway
- Uttar Pradesh is set to get a major boost in connectivity with the 594-km-long Ganga Expressway, which will connect Meerut with Prayagraj. The construction of the expressway is nearly completed and is likely to be inaugurated in the second week of January.
- The expressway is now being extended all the way to Haridwar, further enhancing connectivity and regional development, the Jagran.com report added.
- Vehicles on the upcoming Ganga Expressway will be able to travel at speeds of up to 120 km/hr.
- An industrial corridor is being developed along both sides of the Ganga Expressway, offering a faster and convenient route across the state.
- The new expressway is expected to accelerate industrial growth across several districts, including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj.
