The state government and the public are eagerly awaiting the opening of the 594 km long Ganga Expressway, which will connect Meerut to Prayagraj. In good news, the first 130 km section of the expressway, from Meerut to Badaun, will be ready for vehicle traffic in November.
Although the original deadline for this phase was October 12, the prolonged monsoon season has caused a slight delay in achieving this target.
Final Touches And Ancillary Work Complete
It is claimed that the construction of the main carriageway is nearly finished. Currently, ancillary works such as the installation of streetlights, security cameras, the establishment of a control room with internet connectivity, the placement of speed meters, and the installation of equipment at toll booths have been completed. The expressway is now receiving its final touches.
The entry point for the Ganga Expressway is at village Bijauli, located at km 16 on Hapur Road. Within the limits of Meerut district, the expressway spans 15 km. This section has been adorned with welcome boards and signages. Streetlights have been installed and are operational at night. A toll plaza has been constructed in Khadkhadi village, and its booths are now equipped with the necessary machinery. The control room and security cameras have been set up and connected to the internet.
Final Hurdle: The Railway Over Bridge Approach Road
The construction of the first phase from Meerut to Badaun is being carried out by the L and T company under the supervision of UPEIDA's PIU (Project Implementation Unit) and the operating agency, RRB.
Officials from UPEIDA and RRB claim that the work on the first phase is almost entirely done. The only significant remaining task is the construction of the approach road for the Railway Over Bridge (ROB) in Simbhavali, which is being completed at a rapid pace. All other bridges, underpasses, and interchanges are ready. It is estimated that 100,000 cubic meters of soil will be required to complete the ROB's approach, a task that is expected to be finished by the end of October.
Official Confirmation On Delay And New Timeline
According to RRB Project Director, Anup Kumar, the extended monsoon season this year impacted the work schedule. "However, the majority of the expressway work has been completed," he stated. "Only the approach road for the Simbhavali Railway Over Bridge remains, which is being expedited and will also be finished by the end of October. Work on streetlights, cameras, speed meters, the control room, and toll booth equipment is nearly complete. The server has been installed, and internet connectivity has been provided. The expressway will be ready for vehicles in November."
