On Diwali night, a total of 48 fire incidents, both major and minor, occurred at various locations throughout the district.
The most severe fire took place in Sanjay Nagar, where three shops—Mangalam Jewellers, an adjacent puja shop, and Paradise Shoes—suffered heavy damage. The scale of this fire was significant, as approximately six two-wheelers parked in front of Mangalam Jewellers were engulfed by the flames and destroyed. Fortunately, since the shops were closed for the Diwali festival, a major incident was averted.
Another fire broke out in slums and a scrap warehouse in New Hindan Vihar, generating smoke visible from a great distance. Four fire engines were dispatched to bring this blaze under control.
Other incidents included fires at a factory in Ajanta Compound, Mohan Nagar, and a plastic sheeting warehouse in Nandgram. The fire brigade also responded to reports of a fire in a flat in Rajnagar Extension, a kiosk near Lalkuan, and a rubbish heap in Nehru Nagar.
According to Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal, 48 fire incidents were reported in the district between 6 a.m. on Diwali morning and 6 am on Tuesday. These calls included:
- 14 fires in flats and houses
- 15 in rubbish heaps
- 7 in shops and showrooms
- 5 in factories and warehouses
- 3 involving vehicles
- 2 incidents involving meters, transformers, and water coolers
- 2 other incidents
