Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), household waste collection will soon begin in all gram panchayats of Ghaziabad. At present, door-to-door waste collection is operational in 20 of the 142 gram panchayats, and officials are preparing to extend the system to the remaining 122 villages.

Residents will be charged a fee of Rs 40-50 per household for waste collection. Officials said rampant dumping of garbage along village roads has created foul odour, health hazards, and an unhygienic environment despite ongoing development work. Acting on the directions of the District Magistrate, the District Panchayati Raj Officer has initiated preparations to roll out the waste collection system across all gram panchayats.

A meeting with pradhans and panchayat secretaries will soon be held to finalise the implementation plan. Officials said community participation will be crucial, and awareness campaigns will be conducted through chaupals and village meetings to inform residents about the new system.

Along with door-to-door collection, arrangements for proper waste disposal will also be put in place. Villagers will be encouraged to segregate wet and dry waste at home.
