In a major relief for thousands of children, the Ghaziabad government has released funds for purchasing school uniforms for students enrolled in council schools who do not have an Aadhaar card. The amount has now been transferred directly to the bank accounts of their parents under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

This year, 5,435 such students in the district have received the DBT benefit for the first time. Since DBT was introduced in council schools in 2021-22, non-Aadhaar students had been excluded from the scheme, leaving many unable to afford uniforms and attend classes without them. Schools have now instructed parents to purchase the uniforms at the earliest.

However, nearly 6,000 students are still likely to miss out. These include around 3,000 students whose parents’ bank accounts are not Aadhaar-seeded, and another 3,000 students flagged on the portal due to suspicious age details or duplicate entries.

DBT Breakdown (Rs 1,200 per student):

* Rs 600 for two sets of uniforms (Rs 300 per set)

* Rs 175 for a school bag

* Rs 125 for shoes and socks

* Rs 200 for a sweater

* Rs 100 for stationery
