In a tragic incident, a Sub-Inspector died after the roof of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) office collapsed in Ghaziabad's Ankur Vihar during the heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in the wee hours of Sunday, the officials said.
According to the information, the cop has been identified as a 59-year-old Virendra Kumar Mishra. He was sleeping inside a room when the roof collapsed. He was found buried under the debris.
The incident was confirmed by Additional Police Commissioner Alok Priyadarshi. While the roof collapsed during the early hours, it was not discovered till other cops came to the office on their daily duty in the morning.
After seeing the collapsed roof in the office, they pulled out SI Mishra from the debris and rushed him to a hospital. However, the doctors declared him dead. The video of the ACP office where the unfortunate incident took place has surfaced

The police said that Mishra's family lived in Etawah and were informed about the tragic incident. Speaking about the incident, Ankur Vihar ACP Jay Kumar Singh said, "Today, on May 25, the office roof collapsed during the night due to storms and heavy rainfall. SI Virendra Mishra lost his life in the roof collapse accident. He was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead. He was from Itawah. His family, residing in Delhi, was informed and reached here. Further action is underway."
The Delhi-NCR received unprecedented rainfall that started on the intervening night of May 24 and 25, and continued till early morning on Sunday. During the six hour rainfall between 11:30 pm on Saturday to 5:30 am on Sunday, the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) primary city station recorded 81 mm rainfall. This totalled to over 182 mm rainfall this month, the highest-ever since the record started.
The highest previous high was 165 mm in 2008. The rain brought devastation, as apart from the electricity supply, trees were uprooted and several flights were disrupted. The inclement weather caused damage to electricity supply infrastructure, uprooted trees and disruption to flight movement at IGI Airport.
