Lucknow: Gomti Nagar Railway Station, Lucknow is on track to become a major transportation hub, competing with key stations in Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Currently serving trains like the Patna Vande Bharat and Kamakhya Express, the station is set to enhance connectivity to Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, and other eastern states.

The second phase of construction, expected to be completed within two months, will bring significant improvements to passenger amenities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the station via video conferencing in February 2024.

According to Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Gaurav Agarwal of North Eastern Railway, Lucknow, final touches are being applied, after which upgraded facilities will be accessible to the public.

A proposal for a Lucknow-Puri train has already been submitted, while plans are in place to introduce a Gomti Nagar-Mumbai train to address the seat shortage issue on the Pushpak Express. The station is expected to offer superior facilities compared to Charbagh Railway Station, particularly benefiting passengers traveling to eastern India.

Additionally, work on seven Amrit Bharat stations is nearing completion, with inaugurations anticipated in the coming months. These stations will feature enhanced amenities such as dual entry and exit points, lifts, and escalators. Efforts are also underway to improve railway staff facilities, safety measures, and overall infrastructure.

DRM Aggarwal further mentioned that proposals for Vande Bharat train services between Lucknow-Bhopal and Lucknow-Nainital are awaiting Railway Board approval. Built at a cost of Rs 377.47 crores, Gomti Nagar station is designed to accommodate passenger traffic for the next 50 years.
