The historic Municipal Corporation building, constructed in 1899, is now set to be transformed into a state-of-the-art museum that will preserve the city's pride and heritage. At a cost of around 7,500,000, the building is being developed as 'Gorakhpur Gaurav', which will showcase the city's history and the journey of the Municipality and Municipal Corporation under one roof.

Delhi Agency Preserving Heritage With Modern Design

The responsibility for giving the museum an attractive and modern look has been assigned to the prestigious Delhi-based agency, Karvy. A six-member team from the Delhi-based agency Karvy is carrying out the interior design and decoration work. Led by Sonia Sood, the team is designing the building's interior in a way that preserves its historical character while providing all the facilities of a modern museum.

Rare Artifacts And Records On Display

The team is also searching for and identifying old documents, monuments, rare artefacts, and historical materials so they can be preserved and displayed. The Municipal Corporation's collection of old items related to Gorakhpur, the Municipality, and the Municipal Corporation has almost reached its final stage. This includes a refuse collection rickshaw from the Municipality era, a Victoria Pole, old documents and files related to the Municipality, news reports from the Dainik Jagran newspaper regarding the establishment of the Municipality and Corporation, photographs, and other heritage items. A plan has been made to display all these materials systematically, allowing visitors to understand the complete journey of the city's development.

CM Yogi Adityanath Likely To Inaugurate

The Municipal Corporation administration is preparing to make the museum's inauguration a grand event. It has been proposed that the inauguration be carried out by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Preparations for this have been accelerated. The museum is being given its final touches, and all work will be completed soon. He said that the 'Gorakhpur Gaurav' museum will not only conserve historical heritage but will also serve to connect future generations with the city's glorious past. - Pramod Kumar, Additional Municipal Commissioner
