The Gorakhpur traffic police have adopted a strict stance and launched a special week-long campaign throughout the district against truck drivers who drive their vehicles with covered or concealed number plates, making identification difficult in the event of an accident. Identifying stolen trucks, the use of other vehicles' numbers, or fake number plates is also not possible when the plate is covered.

According to the traffic police, a large number of truck drivers drive with their front and rear number plates partially or completely concealed by using tactics such as using dust, cloth, wooden planks, stickers, or deliberately bending the number plate. As a result, it becomes almost impossible to identify the truck when an accident occurs. If the driver flees after the incident, such a vehicle cannot be identified.

SP Traffic Rajkumar Pandey stated that as part of the campaign, the number plates of trucks parked around Transport Nagar are being thoroughly inspected. Additionally, all heavy vehicles passing through the highway are being stopped and checked.

Instructions have been given to immediately issue fines to trucks found attempting to conceal their numbers. Vehicles with suspicious number plates are being sent to the RTO office for verification. The SP said that truck drivers and owners are being told to keep their number plates clean, clear, and in a visible condition.
