Gorakhpur NEET Student Murder: The Uttar Police on Wednesday said a cattle smuggler linked to the murder of 20-year-old NEET aspirant Deepak Gupta was arrested after a brief encounter at the Police Station Pipraich area. The accused has been identified as Raheem.
Raj Karan Nayyar, SSP Gorakhpur, said Rahim was injured in a police encounter during a joint operation between Gorakhpur's Pipraich police and Kushinagar. A total of four accused were arrested, he added.

"Another accused, Ajab Hussain, was captured by villagers and admitted to the hospital in an injured condition. Two other accused, Chhotu and Raju, were also arrested. The search for two other accused involved in the incident has intensified. Investigation is underway," the police official said.

Victim Was Not Killed By Gunshot: Police
The SSP Gorakhpur clarified that Deepak was not killed by a gunshot, but due to being thrown by a vehicle. "We received information at around 3:00 am that cattle smugglers had come to a village with two pickup vans. During this, when the villagers chased them, one vehicle got stuck in the village, the people of which fled from there and a youth from the village chased the second vehicle and the smugglers took him in their vehicle and later pushed him from the vehicle. Due to which he got a head injury and he died after falling on the road," he added.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections on the complaint of the family and postmortem proceedings are being done, he said, adding some people had spread the rumour that there was a firearm injury.
"No firearm injury has been found in it. Our five teams are currently engaged in this. Our teams will soon arrest the accused. A search operation is going on in the village. One of the cattle smugglers was caught by the villagers and beaten up. He is undergoing treatment. During this, a stone hit a policeman. He is undergoing treatment. The family demands that the accused should be arrested soon and strict action should be taken against them," Nayyar said.
ADG Reviews Crime Scene
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a day after the killing of the youth, Uttar Pradesh Police's Additional Director General (ADG) Law and Order Amitabh Yash arrived in the city to review the situation and assured the family of strict action against those responsible.
The senior IPS officer, who arrived here late on Tuesday evening, inspected the crime scene at Jungle Dhooshan Chauraha, met deceased Deepak Gupta's relatives and said a detailed report would be submitted to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
According to officials, the trouble began late Monday night when 10-12 alleged cattle smugglers in two pickup vans tried to break into a furniture shop belonging to a local trader. Deepak, the shop owner's son, rushed to the spot on a scooter to raise an alarm, followed by other villagers.
