In a major breakthrough, the Ramgarhtal police have busted a gang involved in illegal arms trafficking in the city, arresting five accused. The police have seized two country-made pistols, cartridges, four mobile phones and two motorcycles from their possession. This gang had been active in the city for a long time, operating by sending pictures of weapons to customers on WhatsApp and taking online payments before delivering them.

The arrested accused include Anuj Kumar from Betiahata, Manish Sahani alias Manish Katta from Rampur, and Shailendra Nishad from LahsariKhaira Tola. All three have a long criminal history and have also been booked under the Gangster Act. In addition, Veeru from Barbaspur and Sunil Kumar from Gaighat also have two criminal cases each registered against them.

According to the police investigation, Anuj Kumar was the main person handling the buying and selling of weapons, while Manish Sahani's job was to intimidate and threaten people. Shailendra and Veeru were responsible for sales and delivery.

Ashish Tiwari, the in-charge of the Azad Nagar police outpost, explained that the gang members would contact people in Gorakhpur and surrounding areas. They would send pictures of the weapons on WhatsApp, and once a customer made a selection, they would take payment online by sending a QR code or a UPI number. After the payment was received, they would deliver the weapon to a pre-decided location. Police have found evidence of these arms sales on the accused's mobile phones and are now working to track down the buyers.

Among those arrested, Anuj Kumar has 11 prior cases against him, Shailendra Nishad has four, and Manish Katta has six. However, police clarified that Sunil was not a member of this gang; he was a customer who had purchased a weapon from them.

SP Abhinav Tyagi confirmed that all five accused involved in the arms trafficking case have been arrested and sent to jail. He stated that further investigation is ongoing based on their interrogation and evidence found on their mobile phones. "The people who have bought weapons from them will also be identified and arrested," he said.

According to the police, this gang also has a main kingpin who used to procure the weapons from outside the state. Only Anuj was in direct contact with this leader. Together, they would manage the sales through the other gang members. The police have found the mastermind's number on Anuj's mobile phone and are now actively searching for him. They claim he will be arrested soon. Alongside the hunt for the kingpin, the search for the people who bought weapons from the gang has also been intensified.
