The Pipraich police arrested a man on Thursday night for allegedly raping a young woman from Maharajganj. The accused works as a sanitation worker in the Municipal Corporation. Following interrogation, the police produced him in court on Friday, from where he was sent to jail.

The Complaint

The victim filed a formal complaint at the Pipraich police station on December 31, prompting the police to launch a search for the accused. According to the victim, she had come to a village in the Pipraich area looking for employment. A young man helped her secure a job as a hostess at a marriage hall. A few days later, he introduced her to his friend, the accused Shailesh Yadav, who works as a sanitation worker in the Municipal Corporation.

The Crime

After becoming acquainted, Shailesh promised to marry the victim and lured her into a physical relationship under false pretenses. During this time, he also recorded an intimate video of her. He allegedly sexually exploited her for a year by threatening to circulate the video on social media. When the victim insisted on marriage, the accused threatened to kill her and drove her away.

Police Action

Station House Officer Atul Kumar Srivastava stated that the case was being investigated by Jungle Chhatradhari Outpost In-charge Vikas Singh. Acting on a tip-off that the accused was present on the road leading from Celebration Lodge to Kabari Gali, the police cordoned off the area and arrested him.

Criminal History

The investigation revealed that the accused has a prior criminal record. In 2019, three cases related to theft and possession of stolen goods were registered against him at the Cantt and Shahpur police stations. Further investigation is underway.
