In a bid to strengthen connectivity in the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh, Indian Railways has decided to extend the Gorakhpur-Pilibhit Express up to Izzatnagar in Bareilly. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, flagged off this extension via a video conference from Rail Bhavan, New Delhi.

The train (150009) earlier ran between Lakhimpur and Gorakhpur. A few months ago, its service was increased to Pilibhit, and now it's being extended to Bareilly. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Vaishnaw said, “The railway budget of Uttar Pradesh has increased nearly 18 times, reaching 18 thousand 458 crore for railway development.” The extended route is also expected to help connect the region to the National Capital in the future.
