In a move to reduce traffic congestion on the Kalindi Kunj flyover and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved a road project worth Rs 65.5 crore between Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh and Faridabad in Haryana. The cross-border travel would become much easier, as the travel time between Greater Noida and Faridabad is expected to reduce from two hours to around 20-30 minutes. The construction of the four-lane road is expected to begin soon, as the land acquisition work is underway.
Four Lane Road Between Greater Noida And Faridabad
The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday gave a green signal to the long-pending road link connecting Greater Noida to the Manjhawali Bridge over the Yamuna River and approved Rs 65.5 crore for the construction work. The approval came during a high-level meeting chaired by UP Chief Secretary SP Goyal while assessing the progress of work of Public Works Department (PWD) projects.
“The Greater Noida–Faridabad Integrated Circuit project was among those discussed and approved. It proposes the construction of a 1.7km new road and widening of over 3km of existing roads,” an official said.
The 1.7 km new road between Greater Noida and Faridabad will cut travel time to 20-30 minutes and reduce traffic pressure on the Kalindi Kunj flyover and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. Apart from this, the Greater Noida-Faridabad road project will link Atta Gujran village in Greater Noida to Jasana and Manjhawali in Faridabad, effectively connecting with the 630-metre Manjhawali Bridge.
Greater Noida-Faridabad Road: Why Was The Project Delayed?
The Manjhawali Bridge in Faridabad, which was opened for the public in December 2022, remained underutilised due to a lack of an approach road on the Greater Noida side. While the construction of the approach road on the Haryana side was completed earlier, the approach road on the Greater Noida side faced hurdles in land acquisition and funding.
As the Uttar Pradesh government has approved funds for the road project, the construction work is expected to begin soon. Land acquisition work is underway, and the tender documents are being finalised to start the bidding process soon. As soon as the construction work is completed, the Greater Noida-Faridabad road project will boost cross-border connectivity and benefit daily commuters of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
