A five-story building in Greater Noida's Dadri block will undergo a structural analysis by a team of IIT-Delhi after it got tilted on August 11, causing its 30 residents to leave the premises last Friday.

The Khera Choganpur building has been sealed by the Greater Noida authorities. After cracks in the walls were discovered, four adjoining houses were also locked up and their 40-odd occupants were asked to leave. The colony's access road was also closed.

The five-story building may be demolished following the structural examination, according to officials. Its owner, Ravi, who goes by his first name, is accused of building it without getting approval from any relevant authorities. According to building by-laws in Noida, construction of four floors on a site is allowed, but the structure must have a ground plus four storeys.

The structure tilted slightly to the right, but according to Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) officials who evaluated the situation, it did not collapse because it was leaning on a nearby two-story house that had already suffered significant damage.

Officer on Special Duty, Vishu Raja said, "No approval was taken from the authority before the construction. All the 30 people, who were residing in this building, were tenants and have been moved out. Four nearby houses have also been vacated. In the next 3-4 days, a team from IIT-Delhi will undertake a structural audit of this building and submit a report to the Authority. Suitable action will be taken as per the IIT's recommendation. However, it is likely that the building might be demolished."

According to the OSD, legal action will be taken against the owner of the building and the cost of demolition and structural evaluation will also be taken from him. Meanwhile, most of the residents had been shifted to the Authority's hostel in Ecotech 3, the officials said.
