YEIDA News: In order to preserve the wildlife in the catchment area of the Noida International Greenfield Airport project, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) said on Monday that it has launched a worldwide tender to select an organisation to construct an animal rescue and rehabilitation facility.

According to authorities, Yeida has authorised Rs 3.42 crore to establish this centre, which would not only rescue animals but also safeguard biodiversity that can be impacted by the construction and operation of the airport project in the vicinity of the Yamuna Expressway.

“Following experts’ advice, we have decided to set up an animal rescue and rehabilitation centre near Dhanauri wetland for animals and birds displaced by the Noida International Airport project. We will finalise one expert agency for this purpose and then this agency will be engaged in the development of this centre that will play a key role in biodiversity protection,” said Arun Vir Singh, chief executive officer of the Yeida and CEO of Noida International airport limited.

The facility's lease length has been extended from five to thirty years, according to Yeida authorities, who stated that it was initially meant to be a temporary centre.

The first phase of the Noida airport is being developed over 1,334 hectares of land, which includes six villages. The fauna in the region includes Nilgai, blackbuck, Indian gazelle, monkeys, golden jackals, jungle cats, and Sarus cranes.

To alleviate the impact on these species, the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in Dehradun has proposed establishing a facility as part of a larger biodiversity protection strategy.
