IIT Kanpur has announced the launch of astronomy and science clubs in government schools across the state. The initiative will be supported by IIT’s Ranjit Singh Rozi Shiksha Kendra (RSK) and managed by the institute’s Department of Space, Planetary, and Astronomical Sciences and Engineering.

As part of this program, each participating school will receive specially designed astronomy and science kits. These kits will include over 100 easy-to-perform experiments, crafted to encourage active and experiential learning among students.

“Astronomy isn’t just about stargazing—it’s about understanding our place in the vast cosmos,” news agency ANI quoted Dr Tejpreet Kaur, a Postdoctoral Fellow from IIT’s Space Department. To engage students further, the program will also introduce astronomy-based activities and night-sky observation sessions in schools.

Prof Sandeep Sangal, Principal Investigator of the Rozi Shiksha Kendra Project, said the goal is to provide students with access to high-quality, free science education. The State Bank of India has extended financial assistance to help establish astronomy and science clubs in the first 10 government schools under this initiative.
