Soon after the fire broke out, the power supply of the ward was disrupted, and smoke spread all around. According to the jagran.com report, despite the safety alarm installed in the ward, it did not ring, due to which the security personnel and the medical college administration could not get information about the accident on time.
When the relatives of the pregnant women admitted started running away with their children seeing the flames and smoke, the panic then spread, and the fire brigade was informed in a hurry.
Six fire engines, one after another, reached the spot and brought the fire under control. Meanwhile, top officials of the administration and police also reached the spot. The army also reached the spot with fire engines and broke the glass of the ward window and rescued 37 children safely, but 10 children died.
Amid the deaths of the ten children, if the alarm had rung on time, the tragic death could have been prevented before it turned to this scale.
