In a major step towards integrating technology with healthcare, GSVM Medical College is set to launch Uttar Pradesh’s first AI-based hospital ward at LLR Hospital. Wards 3 and 4 of the Ayushman Unit are being transformed using sensor-based artificial intelligence technology, aiming to enhance patient monitoring and overall care delivery.
According to Prof Sanjay Kala, Principal of GSVM Medical College, the initiative will utilise sensor pitches installed beneath 30 hospital beds, enabling real-time, 24x7 monitoring of patients’ vital parameters such as heart rate, blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels. The system will be fully integrated via Wi-Fi, allowing doctors and nurses to track patients’ health conditions remotely, even from their rooms.

Prof Kala explained that the AI-powered ward is being developed under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, and will serve as a critical solution to address the shortage of medical staff during night shifts. “It is not feasible to have a doctor or nurse present at every bedside around the clock. In such situations, the AI ward will act as a vital support system,” he said.
The ward will feature an automated alarm system, which will immediately alert the staff in case of any deviation in the patient's vitals, such as a drop in oxygen levels or irregular heartbeat, enabling swift medical response and potentially saving lives.
This marks the second major AI initiative at GSVM Medical College, following the development of an AI-based medical school. The administration is optimistic about the outcomes, and based on results, plans to expand the AI ward model across other departments and critical care units in the future.
Prof Kala added that the AI integration will not only modernise the hospital infrastructure but also significantly improve patient safety and care quality, especially in emergency and critical care scenarios.
