Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway: Travel between Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow and the industrial city Kanpur is now going to be fast and comfortable. The first phase of the 62.7 km long Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway has been completed. The expressway will be dedicated to the public by Diwali this year, jagran,com reported. The construction work on the 45 km stretch from Unnao to Banthra has been finished, jagran.com reported.

This project, which is being built at a cost of about Rs 4,700 crore, will go from Azad Chauraha in Unnao to Shaheed Path in Lucknow. It has been divided into two parts. The first phase is a 17.5 km elevated road from Sainik School to Bani Mod, while the second phase is a 45.2 km Greenfield route from Banthra to Azad Chauraha.

At present, the construction work of 18 km long elevated road from Banthra to Shaheed Path is underway, while the construction work of 45 km long Greenfield Expressway from Unnao to Banthra has been declared over. Toll gates of Shuklaganj bypass have been built in Unnao.

As per NHAI officials, as of now the journey from Kanpur to Lucknow takes three to four hours. Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway will cover this distance in just 35 to 45 minutes.

Three rest areas have been built for the convenience and safety of the passengers. These are in Aderwa (Nevarna), Padri Khurd and Unnao area. Along with this, Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway will have a 10-bed hospital, trauma center and ambulance facility.

Five Toll Plazas Constructed

Five toll plazas are being built on this route. These include Miranpur Pinwat, Khandedev, Bani of Lucknow, and Lalganj (Amrasas village) of Unnao and the entry has been built at Azad intersection near Shuklaganj bypass. Ramps have been prepared at a total of six places for entry and exit in the expressway.

Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway To Enhance Employment Opportunities

In this project, land has been acquired and compensation of Rs 800 crore has been distributed to the farmers. This project is passing through 42 villages of Lucknow and Unnao, which will directly benefit the local people. Officials say that this expressway will prove to be not just a road, but an economic corridor.

This will promote trade, industry, education and employment between the two cities. The project will also directly connect Kanpur and Lucknow's ring road, Agra Expressway and other highways. Preparations are on to get the expressway inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“In Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, the package construction from Unnao to Banthra has been completed. 18 km part of the elevated expressway in Lucknow is still under construction. The construction of the expressway will be completed by November 30. Along with this, the date of inauguration will be decided,” said Sanjeev Sharma, Regional Project Director, NHAI.
