After relentless rains exposed the poor condition of roads in Kanpur—from main stretches to internal lanes—residents can now expect some much-needed relief. The District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) has taken a major step by planning the reconstruction of 178 roads at an estimated cost of Rs 22 crore. Tenders have been issued for the project, and construction is expected to begin shortly after finalisation of contractors through an online bidding process by August 13.
According to officials, all necessary documents for participation must be submitted to the DUDA office by 2 PM on the same day. Once contracts are awarded, the roads will be completed within a three-month timeframe. These efforts come even as the Municipal Corporation secured 13th rank nationally in the Swachhta Survey, while broken and waterlogged roads continue to trouble citizens.
The reconstruction project aims to improve road infrastructure across 178 localities, including Barra, Naubasta, Jarauli, Ramadevi, Kalyanpur, and Ghatampur, with a focus on building cement-concrete (CC) roads and drainage systems in inner muddy streets. The internal roads of Aasara Awas will receive the highest allocation of Rs 1.89 crore, while the lowest road construction cost is estimated at Rs 3.61 lakh.
The maximum number of roads will be constructed in the Maharajpur Assembly constituency, represented by Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, including key society and outer area roads.
Municipal Commissioner Sudhir Kumar stated that road repairs are being undertaken on a war footing, and residents will soon see visible improvements.
