The Public Works Department (PWD) has accelerated the construction of the Airport Road from Jajmau Chungi, with a target to complete the six-kilometre stretch by September 2025. Alongside road development, work on repairing the utility duct and laying underground cables is also in progress.
According to PWD officials, the project began in March 2023, and the construction contract was awarded to Anand Construction. Of the total six kilometres, construction work is currently being carried out over 4.6 kilometres. The total budget for the project stands at Rs 31.87 crore, out of which Rs 12.97 crore is allocated specifically for electrical works.

PWD Executive Engineer Akhandeshwar Prasad informed that road construction has been completed up to Shekhupur Turn, and work is ongoing beyond that point. However, old drainage lines between Jajmau Chungi and Siddhnath Mandir Mor are posing significant hurdles in laying new drains. In response, PWD has sought assistance from the Municipal Corporation to resolve the issue.
The duct near the airport wall has already been fully covered as part of the project, and Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU) is also ensuring similar quality standards in its adjacent infrastructure works.
Authorities remain confident about completing the road within the deadline, provided the drainage-related challenges are addressed in coordination with civic officials.
