Kanpur is expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall over the coming days as monsoon activity gains momentum in the region. According to weather experts, a low-pressure system has formed over the Bay of Bengal and is rapidly advancing towards Uttar Pradesh and Kanpur. As a result, rainfall is likely to intensify in the city throughout the week.
Dr SN Sunil Pandey, an IMD meteorologist, said light to moderate showers are expected on July 15, followed by heavier rainfall between July 16 and 19. Additionally, another weather system developing over eastern Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh is expected to enhance rainfall activity across North India, including Kanpur.
Even before the official forecast date, monsoon showers arrived in Kanpur on Monday evening. Dark clouds, accompanied by gusty winds, brought heavy rain to the city, marking the first major spell of the season. The rainfall, which lasted for about an hour, caused a noticeable dip in temperature and offered relief from the prevailing humidity.
As per data recorded by the Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA), 26 mm of rain was registered by 9 PM. Other areas reported varying amounts: 12 mm in Naubasta and 5–6 mm in Bilhaur. The day’s maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 32.5 degrees Celcius, with a minimum of 25.4 degrees Celcius, while Chakeri Air Force Station reported a maximum of 35.2 degrees Celcius and a minimum of 26.4 degrees Celcius.
