The ongoing spell of monsoon rain is expected to weaken, but the shifting of the monsoon trough line towards Kanpur may bring light to moderate showers on Wednesday. Despite the approaching end of the monsoon phase, heavy rain on Tuesday afternoon drenched the city, continuing a three-day streak of downpours triggered by a cyclonic system from the Bay of Bengal.

The city saw significant rainfall on Tuesday morning and afternoon, leading to waterlogging in several urban areas and inundation in farmlands across rural parts. According to Dr Naushad Alam, Meteorologist at Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, 68 mm of rainfall was recorded at the university’s weather centre till 8:30 am on Tuesday, with the intensity remaining high during the day. Humidity levels touched 97 per cent, contributing to the heavy afternoon showers.
