Flight services at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport have resumed round-the-clock operations from Saturday following the completion of major runway upgrades and the addition of two new taxiways. With this, the four-hour daily suspension of flights between 11 am and 3 pm, in effect since March 1, has been lifted, and eight cancelled flights have been restored.
The airport’s 2,744-metre runway, which underwent recarpeting and a lighting system overhaul, is now operational throughout the day. Officials said the construction of two additional taxiways, alongside the existing five, will ease aircraft movement from apron to runway during peak hours, reducing delays and congestion.
Currently, Lucknow Airport handles 128 domestic flights daily to 28 destinations, along with 8–10 international services. Several flights that were rescheduled due to the closure can now operate in their original slots.
Airport authorities confirmed that further expansion plans are underway. The runway is expected to be extended from 2,744 metres to 3,500 metres after land acquisition of around 54 acres across five villages in Bijnor. Once completed, the extension will enable the airport to accommodate larger aircraft and open direct flight services to cities in the US and the UK.
