Tall mobile towers, high-voltage electricity poles and meat shops are becoming a threat to aircraft operations at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport. Information about such potential threats was provided at a meeting of the Airport Environment Management Committee held at the airport on Tuesday, chaired by Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant. Officials from ATC, Lucknow Development Authority, UP State Forest Department, the Municipal Corporation, and the police were also present on this occasion.
Action Against High-Rise Obstacles
Airport management officials informed the Divisional Commissioner that the height of the Doordarshan tower and high-voltage electricity poles near the airport is excessive. This could pose a threat to the safe take-off and landing of aircraft.
The Divisional Commissioner issued instructions to identify and remove mobile towers exceeding the standard height within a 20-kilometre radius of Lucknow Airport. The Divisional Commissioner directed that the height of towers and staircases on all tall buildings located within a 20-kilometre radius of the airport and on the approach path to the runway be measured. Structures found to be in violation of the standards will be removed. Indicator orange ball lights will be installed on all towers and high-voltage electricity poles.
Bird Menace And Illegal Encroachments
Birds are carrying pieces of meat from three illegal meat shops near the airport onto the runway. Instructions were given to form a joint team of the Municipal Corporation, Food Safety, and the Police Department to remove these unlicensed shops. Fruit and vegetable farming is being carried out by encroaching on the land of the Airports Authority of India in the southern area of the airport. This raises concerns about an increase in bird breeding.
A large number of birds fly in the vicinity of the airport, which can pose a serious risk to aircraft operations. The Divisional Commissioner also instructed that a joint team be formed with the Additional District Magistrate East and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sarojini Nagar to survey the site, submit a detailed report, and take prompt action to remove the illegal encroachment from the said land.

Waste Management And Other Bans
The problem of waterlogging also persists due to piles of rubbish at several locations on Bijnor Road, Bijnor Tiraha, Rahimabad, and the approaching Kanpur Road. The Municipal Corporation has been instructed to clear the rubbish. Instructions were also given to enforce the ban on the use of laser lights and kite flying within a five-kilometre radius of the airport.
