The Uttar Pradesh Appointment Department has begun preparations for action against those responsible for the Defense Corridor land scam in Lucknow, after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave the green light. IAS officer Abhishek Prakash, a primary accused, is expected to face departmental action and a recovery notice soon.
Action will also be taken against the guilty PCS officers. A report by the then-Chairman of the Revenue Council, Dr Rajnish Dubey, detailed the fraudulent compensation claims amounting to approximately Rs 58 crore.
Sixteen officers, including Prakash, were found guilty. Prakash is already under suspension for allegedly demanding a 5 per cent bribe from an investor. Two PCS officers involved in the case are currently working under a stay order from the High Court. The Chief Minister has directed action against all 16 officials named in the report.
The Appointment Department is considering issuing show-cause notices and recovering the compensation paid against regulations. The recovery notices will be issued based on each individual's responsibility for the loss of public funds. Action is also being considered against other PCS officers, including suspension for those in service and pension freezes for retirees.
