The proposed four-lane highway from Lucknow to Etawah via Mohan and Bilhaur has received its first financial approval from the Finance Expenditure Committee, paving the way for the commencement of construction. The green signal came after a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

As part of infrastructure proposals worth Rs 5,000 crore submitted from Kanpur district, the government has sanctioned Rs 35 crore for the initial phase of land acquisition and primary construction of the highway. The project aims to upgrade the existing Lucknow–Bilhaur–Etawah link road into a full-fledged four-lane highway.

According to officials, approximately 14 km of the highway will pass through Kanpur city limits, providing direct benefits to local commuters and industries. The route, currently used by heavy vehicles travelling from Lucknow to Etawah via Mohan, Bangarmau, Kakwan, Rasulabad, Nanamau, and Bilhaur, will ease traffic pressure on the overburdened GT Road once expanded.

The highway is expected to boost local trade, agricultural transport, and industrial activity in the region. Notably, during the monsoon season, frequent flooding near Bangarmau due to the Ganga River often hampers connectivity. To address this, the Public Works Department (PWD) will construct the road at an elevated level.

While a Greenfield Expressway already connects Lucknow to Agra, this new route will serve commuters whose travel routes include smaller towns across Central Uttar Pradesh.

PWD Executive Engineer Akhandeshwar Prasad confirmed that following the budget allocation, the construction process will be expedited.
