The Lucknow Police revealed that the murder of a taxi driver on December 30, was a case of mistaken identity. Police stated that the gang of hitmen was allegedly hired by a lawyer to kill his lover’s family but they mistakenly killed the wrong target in the city’s Madehganj area. The prime accused, identified as Aaftab Ahmad, reportedly orchestrated the murder of the woman's husband and father due to his alleged relationship with her.

The hitmen, however, mistakenly shot a taxi driver in the locality, named Rizwan. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Raveena Tyagi confirmed that the weapon, bike and mobile phones used in the crime were seized.

The accused allegedly hired gang member Yasir, who subcontracted the task to Krishnakant. A mix-up during the execution led to Rizwan’s death, causing friction between Ahmed and the gang. Ahmed had paid Rs 2 lakh in advance but withheld the remaining amount due to the failed plan.

Police arrested Ahmed, Yasir and Krishnakant, recovering an illegal firearm, 14 live cartridges, a motorcycle and three phones and further investigation into the incident is underway.
