To ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the state capital, the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation and the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) are constructing two new bridges over the Gomti River, aimed at benefiting over five lakh residents.
The first bridge, being built near the existing concrete bridge in Khadra, will provide a major relief to heavy vehicles commuting between Lucknow and Sitapur Road. So far, 12 percent of the construction work has been completed, with a target completion date of June 2027. The four-lane bridge will span 180 meters, with an additional 326 meters of approach road, and has an approved budget of Rs 92.89 crore.
The work has commenced on another four-lane concrete bridge at Mehndi Ghat under the Green Corridor Scheme. This bridge will replace the decades-old pontoon bridge and improve connectivity between Faizullaganj and Daulatganj.

With a sanctioned cost of Rs 53.98 crore and a length of 303.38 meters, this bridge is expected to drastically cut the 12 km commute down to just 15 minutes. Currently, 5 percent of the work has been completed, with a target of reaching 50 percent by December 2025.
On Friday, local MLA Dr Neeraj Bora formally inaugurated the Mehndi Ghat bridge construction with a ceremonial puja. Once completed, the bridge will benefit residents of Daudnagar, Balram Ghazipur, Allunagar-Diguria, Preeti Nagar, Keshavnagar, and other LDA colonies from the Faizullaganj side, as well as people from Thakurganj, Balaganj, Azad Nagar, Gaughat, and Hussainabad on the Daulatganj side.
The bridges are also expected to ease vehicular movement for commuters traveling on the national highway routes to and from Delhi, Bareilly, Sitapur, and Hardoi. With the goal of enhancing urban mobility and reducing travel time, both projects are being closely monitored by state engineers, who are optimistic about early completion.
