A 50-year-old man selling lai-chana (puffed rice and chickpeas) was brutally murdered by two youths at the Vikasnagar crossing on Monday night. The attackers bludgeoned the victim with a brick while he was asleep. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, and police are currently working to identify the suspects.

The Incident

The victim, identified as Lalaram Verma, was a resident of Chandeshua village in the Laharpur Kotwali area of Sitapur. He worked as a traveling vendor and typically slept near the stall of an egg roll vendor named Ganpat at the Vikasnagar crossing after finishing his work.

On Tuesday morning, passersby discovered Lalaram lying near the pavement in critical condition, covered in blood. They immediately alerted the UP Dial-112 service. A police team rushed the injured man to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

CCTV Footage And Investigation

Police have recovered crucial evidence from nearby CCTV cameras. The footage reveals that at approximately 3:20 am, two young men stealthily approached Lalaram while he was sleeping. They struck him on the head with a brick before fleeing the scene.

According to the police, the faces of the attackers are visible in the footage. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East, Shashank Singh, stated that three dedicated teams have been formed to search for the suspects.

Legal Action And Family

DCP Shashank Singh noted that while the family has been informed of the tragedy, they have not yet filed a formal complaint. A case will be registered, and further legal action will be taken once the complaint is received.

Lalaram Verma is survived by his wife and a four-year-old daughter. The police are currently investigating the motive behind this senseless killing.
