Dense fog caused multiple road accidents on the Lucknow-Delhi National Highway (NH-9) in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday morning, leaving at least 12 people injured and one person dead, while severely disrupting traffic movement. Several districts in eastern and western Uttar Pradesh, including the capital Lucknow, were shrouded in dense fog, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD has issued a dense fog alert for Lucknow and surrounding districts for the next two days.
Lucknow-Delhi National Highway Major Accidents On Sunday Due To Dens Fog
First Case
1. A major accident was reported on the Lucknow-Delhi National Highway (NH-9) in Amroha on Sunday morning after dense fog severely reduced visibility, injuring over 12 people.
2. The incident took place near Shahwajpur Dor village under the Gajraula Kotwali police station area, where nearly 10 vehicles were involved in a chain collision.
3. Poor visibility led to repeated crashes, causing chaos on the highway and disrupting traffic for a long duration.
4. Police and ambulances rushed the injured to a nearby hospital, cranes were deployed to clear damaged vehicles, and an investigation into the accident is underway.
Second Case
1. A container truck collided with a moving canter truck from behind on the Delhi-Lucknow National Highway in the Pakbara area, and two cars following it also crashed into the container truck.
2. The collision involved four vehicles and caused a major traffic jam on the highway.
3. The container truck driver, Kamal Singh from Haldwani, along with two others, was injured and rushed to the district hospital, where Kamal Singh later died during treatment.
4. Police arrived at the scene, cleared the damaged vehicles after about an hour, and restored normal traffic flow.
UP Weather Update
Due to a second Western Disturbance, scattered rainfall is likely in western Uttar Pradesh on January 22 and 23, while fog conditions will begin to ease across central and eastern parts from January 20.
Barabanki recorded the lowest temperature in the state on Saturday at 3.5 Degree Celsius, followed by Hardoi at 3.6 Degree Celsius, while Lucknow logged its season’s lowest minimum temperature of 4.4 Degree Celsius.
Night temperatures dropped over the past few days under the influence of the Western Disturbance, but the impact of the cold wave is expected to gradually weaken.
From January 20 onwards, both minimum and maximum temperatures may rise by up to three degrees Celsius, with the cold wave likely to end in western Uttar Pradesh.
Fog is expected to decrease across most districts after January 20, daytime weather will improve, but cold conditions may persist from evening until around 10 AM.
